  The airline Eurowings has once again achieved a positive annual result thanks to continued strong demand, particularly for tourist flights. The Lufthansa Group's point-to-point business segment – consisting of Eurowings and the stake in SunExpress – posted a positive result of 203 million euros (adjusted EBIT) in 2024. Eurowings is thus defying the difficult conditions in German air traffic with its high location costs and sharply rising taxes and fees.   The once again profitable financial year is largely due to the focus on and expansion of the tourism business. In 2024, around 23 million passengers chose Eurowings, which recorded an 11 percent increase in revenue to around EUR 2.9 billion. The number of employees rose to 5,300. As part of its expansion, Eurowings benefited from the first direct connections to the Gulf region, which were successively expanded due to strong demand. Germany's largest leisure airline connects the destinations of Dubai, Jeddah and – in future – Abu Dhabi with German metropolitan regions such as Berlin. Strong impulses for growth are also coming from the establishment of the company's own tour operator. Eurowings Holidays offers the more than 20 million customers of Eurowings tailor-made and fully relaxed holiday packages from a single source. The new company is set to become one of the ‘top ten’ German tour operators in the next few years.   Jens Bischof, CEO Eurowings: ‘The strong 2024 result is first and foremost an outstanding team effort by our employees throughout Europe, which deserves the highest recognition. Germany leisure airline Eurowings, part of the Lufthansa Group, is expanding its business segment with its own branded tour operator. Eurowings Holidays GmbH and will officially start operations on 1 April 2025. The new tour operator is taking over the staff and tourism IT systems of media and tourism entrepreneur Karlheinz Kögel in Baden-Baden (whose businesses include the HLX Group) to rapidly scale up its launch. In the initial phase, around 100 staff will start work for Eurowings Holidays, of which more than 50 employees will come from Binoli GmbH, a subsidiary of Kögel's HLX Group. Kögel also owns the market research company Media Control. As the founder of tour operator L'Tur, Kögel successfully established last-minute travel in the market. Since 2020, the HLX Group has also built up the Eurowings Holidays brand. Under the umbrella of the Lufthansa Group, the new company will create a tour operator that can offer customised holidays from a single source including for more than 20 million customers who have mainly booked flights with Eurowings to date. The company will offer flexible travel packages that include hotel accommodation and transfers in addition to flights. The expansion to a more data-driven business model and the integration of advanced technologies are key factors for future growth. The airline operates a base on Mallorca and offers more than 400 weekly connections between Palma and 26 different airports during the high season. Eurowings is also the market leader in Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Cologne and Stuttgart.   The go-ahead has been given for one of the largest fleet modernizations in European aviation: Lufthansa Group has decided to allocate 40 brand-new Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft that have been ordered to Eurowings. The gradual integration of new short and medium-haul jets will pave the way for Eurowings to operate one of the youngest fleets in European air traffic in the future.   The approval does not just provide Lufthansa Group's value airline with state-of-the-art jets and engines that have particularly low fuel consumption and noise emissions thanks to their efficiency: Eurowings is also making significant progress towards more sustainable flying, as the latest generation of jets consumes up to 30 percent less kerosene and emits correspondingly less CO₂. The order for 40 brand-new 737 aircraft is equivalent to an investment of around five billion dollars at list price. This makes it by far the largest and most expensive sustainability project in the more than 30-year history of Eurowings.   Modern travel experience, more range, more seats   The Cologne-based airline has grown dynamically since the end of the pandemic and has established a strong position among the most popular airlines in Europe in what is known as “point-to-point traffic”. The British rating agency Skytrax named the company a four-star airline last year. Eurowings is now Germany's largest leisure airline and is the market leader at airports such as Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Cologne/Bonn.   Delivery of the first Boeing 737-8 MAX to Eurowings is scheduled to begin in 2027 and will be completed with a total of 40 jets by 2032. The new aircraft will gradually replace the Airbus A319 fleet as well as older Airbus A320 models. With its capacity for 189 passengers, the Boeing 737-8 MAX offers 39 additional seats compared to the A319. Its significantly longer range also makes it the perfect choice for longer medium-haul destinations, which Eurowings is increasingly offering in its portfolio.   From Rovaniemi to Seville, from Newcastle to Warsaw – the Eurowings summer flight schedule 2025 is growing in all directions. Germany's largest leisure airline has expanded its program for the upcoming summer and will be flying on 412 routes to around 142 destinations in 36 countries from the end of March to the end of October.   In addition to new destinations, Eurowings is also flying to popular holiday destinations more frequently on many routes. There will also be more flights to Dubai: the Lufthansa subsidiary will also be offering the connection during the Easter and autumn school holidays. SAFt’ fruit smoothie available on Eurowings flights as of now

 

• SAFt purchase offsets the flight-related CO₂ emissions of an average Eurowings route length

  Sustainable enjoyment can be taken literally on board Eurowings flights going forward – in two ways: by purchasing the new organic fruit smoothie ‘SAFt’ in the Wings Bistro, passengers can offset the flight-related CO₂ emissions of an average Eurowings route length for 19.50 euros as of now. The compensation is made up of two components: sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) reduces 10 percent of flight-related CO₂ emissions. The remaining 90 percent of flight-related CO₂ emissions are offset by contributing to a high-quality climate project portfolio with the partners myclimate, Climate Partner and SQUAKE.   SAFt, a play on words involving the German word for ‚juice‘, aims to inform guests about SAF during the flight and offer the sustainable aviation fuel for purchase. Eurowings travelers can thus make a spontaneous and uncomplicated contribution to more sustainable flying. SAF is produced from biogenic waste from renewable sources, such as used cooking oils, and has a carbon footprint that is around 80 percent lower than that of fossil kerosene over its entire life cycle. As a drop-in fuel, SAF is compatible with fossil kerosene and is blended with it before being transported to the airport and then fed into the airport infrastructure. There is no refueling of individual flights with pure SAF.   The smoothie is also all about sustainability: the organic smoothie from kraftschluck is produced in Germany and has no added sugar. Kraftschluck is a young start-up from Nuremberg that guarantees that 99.9% of its fruit comes from German organic farms with short transport routes. The offer of CO₂ compensation that can be booked online in advance (Planet Blu) remains in place.

With immediate effect, travelers at Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) can use the exclusive “VIP Lounge Mediterraneo” and “VIP Lounge Formentor” lounges in Terminal 1 of the airport from 5:00 a.m. to midnight.   Eurowings is also expanding lounge access at the airports in Cairo (CAI), Dubai World Central (DWC) and Jeddah (JED) with the start of the new Eurowings direct connections to these destinations.   German airline Eurowings is significantly expanding its direct flight offering to Dubai. Jens Bischof, CEO of Eurowings, announced over the weekend a doubling of capacity for the Winter 2024/25 flight schedule. “Dubai, with its futuristic skyline, is not only a vibrant business hub but also a magnet for more and more leisure travelers. With our value offer, you can experience the exciting mix of winter sun, desert sands, and skyscrapers without a layover and at very attractive prices,” said Bischof at an event with tourism experts in the Emirate.   Bischof also presented a major expansion of Eurowings' offering: starting October 27, 2024, Dubai will be connected daily and nonstop with the German capital, Berlin (currently 4 times per week). From Stuttgart, there will be up to four weekly flights (currently 2 times per week). Additionally, Cologne/Bonn will become the third German departure airport, with Eurowings operating three weekly nonstop flights from the Rhineland to Dubai using Airbus A320neo aircraft.   Direct Flights with New Service Additions   The Dubai product with entry prices from 139.99 euros (one-way) and very attractive flight times (day flights without transfers) complements Eurowings with new service components. For BIZ Class passengers, this includes pillows, padded headrests, and free food and drinks (including alcoholic beverages) throughout the flight. All Dubai passengers will also receive device holders onboard the A320neo, making it easier to watch movies and series on their own devices.   The rapidly growing Eurowings offering on longer medium-haul routes is partially replacing domestic German routes, which, due to rapidly increasing taxes and fees at German airports, are becoming increasingly unprofitable to operate. For example, the service between Hamburg and Cologne/Bonn, which has been popular for many years, will soon be discontinued.

German leisure carrier Eurowings is expanding its route network in the Gulf region. After a successful launch of Dubai flights from Berlin, it immediately became the most successful route in the Eurowings winter flight schedule. From October, Eurowings offers daily Dubai flights from Berlin, which is up from four times a week. Also, Stuttgart to Dubai flights will increase to three times a week instead of twice weekly. "This success is motivating us to significantly increase frequencies next winter," said Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof. Eurowings is also adding a new Gulf region destination next winter. The airline will operate its first Saudi Arabia flights to Jeddah. Flights to the Red Sea port city of Jeddah will run three times a week from both Berlin and Cologne.

European airlines Eurowings and AEGEAN Airlines have unveiled a new airline codeshare partnership.  The new partnership aims to boost leisure and business travel between Greece and Germany by offering more flight options. The bilateral airline codeshare agreement offers passengers more options to and from the popular tourist regions of Greece and Germany. Selected flights operated by AEGEAN, will be bookable under Eurowings flight numbers, while Eurowings flights will also be available under AEGEAN flight numbers. AEGEAN will place its A3 code on direct flights operated by Eurowings connecting Heraklion (Crete) and Thessaloniki with Eurowings bases in Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. Eurowings will assign its code to AEGEAN flights serving Athens and Thessaloniki with Germany and the Czech Republic. The airlines plan to gradually expand the airline codeshare. Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof said: "The cooperation is part of our European growth strategy and strengthens our position as the largest German leisure airline.” “The agreement comes at exactly the right time, as we are currently recording the strongest incoming bookings in four years." Eurowings has a partnership with Czech airline Smartwings and a sales partnership with Spanish airline Volotea.

Manchester Airport has bagged a new destination – Stuttgart, Germany. The new Germany flights will be operated by Eurowings four days per week on an Airbus A319. The route begins on 6 May 2024 with fares starting from £39.99pp one way. Stuttgart will become the eighth German city with a direct link to Manchester – the others being Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Dusseldorf and Freiburg. Ryanair previously operated a flight from Manchester to Stuttgart between 2015 and 2019.
