United reveals cause of tech glitch
United Airlines revealed the reasons for its sudden ground stop Tuesday, debunking speculation of a cyberattack.
The airline said it was caused by a software update that triggered a systems glitch.
The airline was forced to inform the FAA and put a brief ground stop on all flights.
It prevented United crews from communicating with airline dispatchers.
“A software update caused a widespread slowdown in United’s technology systems,” United said in a statement.
The FAA confirmed United requested a brief ground stop, halting all departures nationwide.
It didn’t affect any other airlines.
Only a handful of flights were cancelled but over 300 were delayed.
