Tenerife update: Wildfire started deliberately
The Regional Government of the Canaries issued an update for travellers, reiterating that tourist facilities, ports and airports are operating as normal.
It comes as government officials say suspected arson is possibly the cause.
Access to the Mount Teide National Park is off limits.
The blaze has so far affected over 3,000 hectares.
It is concentrated in Arafo, Candelaria, El Rosario, La Orotava, Santa Úrsula, La Victoria, El Sauzal and Tacoronte.
These areas have seen thousands of residents evacuated.
Canary Islands regional president Fernando Clavijo said police confirmed that the fire was started deliberately.
Better weather has helped speed up containment of the fire.
“The night was very difficult but thanks to the work of the firefighters, the results have been very positive,” Tenerife governor, Rosa Davila said.
About 12,000 have been evacuated from their homes since the fire began early last week.
Residents of another 19 towns were advised to stay indoors due to the poor air quality.
More than 400 firefighters and soldiers are deployed to fire the spread of the fire along with 23 water-carrying helicopters and planes.
