Soneva founder recognised in New Year Honours
Luxury resort pioneer Sonu Shivdasani has been awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours list.
Sonu is founder and CEO of Soneva Resorts and Six Senses.
He was recognised for services to tourism, sustainability and charity in the King’s New Year Honours 2023 Overseas and International list.
First resort Soneva Fushi, opened in 1995 in the Baa Atoll, Maldives.
Six Senses Hotels Resorts and Spas was founded the same year, followed by the Evason hotel group in 1997.
“Receiving an OBE is an incredible honour and I share it with all of Soneva’s friends and family.”
This recognition reinforces our founding vision, which is placing purpose over profit,” Sonu said.
“We strive to make every moment memorable for our guests.”
Soneva operates Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani in the Maldives, and Soneva Kiri in Thailand.
The Soneva Foundation, a not-for-profit UK-registered trust, helps offset carbon emissions for purposeful projects around the world.
Soneva Namoona, a Maldives NGO also receives funding from Soneva and the Soneva Foundation for key initiatives.
