Explora I christened in New York
Explora Journeys’ first ship has been christened in New York City.
Guest of honor was marine biologist Dr Sylvia Earle who christened the vessel at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal.
Explora I is the first of six ships planned for MSC Cruise’s new brand, which began sailing this summer.
“I am honored to be the godmother and look forward to a meaningful relationship between Mission Blue, Explora Journeys and the MSC Foundation,” Earle said.
Explora I boasts 461 suites and residences, six restaurants and four swimming pools.
The Explora Journeys ship will continue sailing in North America until the winter when it repositions to the Caribbean.
It will offer Hawaii itineraries and West Coast cruises next spring before crossing the Atlantic for a summer in the Mediterranean.
Second ship Explora II will enter service in summer 2024, while Explora III and Explora IV are due for delivery in 2026 and 2027.
