Air New Zealand to weigh passengers for international flights

Kiwi flag carrier Air New Zealand will begin weighing international passengers from June.

The policy will give it more accurate data for the weight and balance of each departure.

Alastair James, Air NZ load control improvement officer said it will be voluntary and no passengers will be forced onto scales.

It will only be a temporary measure.

“We weigh everything that goes on the aircraft – from the cargo to the meals on-board, to the luggage in the hold.”

“For customers we use average weights, which we get from doing this survey.”

Passengers will get weighed at the entrance to the gate lounge.

“It’s simple, it’s voluntary, and you’ll be helping us to fly you safely and efficiently,” James added.

Air New Zealand says the wight survey is a Civil Aviation Authority requirement and requires about 10,000 to produce accurate data.
